The Grandstream UCM

GSPBX provide guides on how to setup your whole Grandsream VoIP phone system. We'd like to begin our Grandstream VoIP tutorial proper by introducing the Grandstream UCM. The UCM abbreviation stands for Unified Communications Manager. Most of the guides here will focus on either the Grandstream 6202 or its 6204 versions.

The Purpose Of UCM

Based on the words that compose the abbreviation UCM, this device was created to manage any other compatible VoIP device(s) within your premise. Voice, conferencing, video, data, instant messaging and mobility services - you name it and the Grandstream UCM can support them.
Just like any other products in the tech market, the Grandstream UCM is a trash if you don't know how to use it. But once you are able to tap into its capabilities, GSPBX guarantees that you'll get hooked in fiddling with your configurations. A UCM is also commonly called as IP PBX.

Connecting The UCM

On a simple / straightforward network, your Grandstream UCM will normally be connected to where it can get internet connectivity. In this case, your internet modem / gateway. Just like your computer being plugged in on one of your modem / gateway LAN ports. No need to complicate things.

The Grandstream UCM will also have a small LCD that will show the IP address that it is currently using to connect to your home or office network. You'll use this IP address to access the GUI (Graphical User Interface) of your Grandstream UCM.

The Grandstream UCM GUI

In the world of technical stuff, most devices that can be configured will have a GUI (Graphical User Interface). And most GUIs are accessed using an internet browser. Just like any typical modem, router, or gateway that can be accessed using the 192.168.1.1 on the internet browser URL bar crap. Below is an overview on Grandstream UCM's GUI when accessed on your internet browser.
